Welcome to the Pastel Bicycles family! We’re thrilled that you’ve chosen the WHTIF gravel bike. With just a few simple steps, you’ll be ready to hit the road and enjoy the ride of a lifetime.
To ensure safe delivery, your bike arrives partially disassembled. Follow this guide to complete the assembly quickly and confidently.
Delivery Condition and Contents
Upon unpacking your bike, inspect it for any signs of shipping damage. If you notice anything unusual, please contact us immediately.
Your delivery includes:
- The bike with the rear wheel mounted, the front wheel detached, and handlebars secured with cable ties.
- The saddle and seat post (packaged separately).
- An accessory bag with essential tools and small components.
Tools You Will Need:
- Small side cutter or sharp scissors (for cable ties)
- Hex key (Allen wrench)
- Torque wrench (recommended for final adjustments)
- Assembly paste (provided in the accessory bag)
Step 1: Detach the Front Wheel
- Carefully cut the cable ties securing the front wheel to the frame. Use a small side cutter or scissors to avoid damaging the rim or tire.
Step 2: Install the Handlebars
- Cut the cable ties securing the handlebars to the frame.
- To prevent damage to the frame during installation, stabilize the bike by placing the rear wheel inside the shipping box, with the fork resting outside.
- Turn the stem forward and loosen the four bolts on the handlebar clamp.
- Apply a small amount of assembly paste to the inside of the clamp.
- Center the handlebars in the stem clamp and lightly tighten the bolts.
- Leave final adjustments for later, after mounting both wheels.
Step 3: Pre-assemble the Saddle
- Insert the seat post with the saddle attached into the frame.
- Lightly tighten the seat post bolt to secure it temporarily.
- Final height and angle adjustments will be made later.
Step 4: Mount the Front Wheel
- Remove the bike from the shipping box.
- Using a hex key, remove the front wheel axle.
- Take out the red plastic spacer from the brake caliper.
- Position the front wheel into the fork, ensuring the brake disc aligns with the caliper.
- Insert the axle through the fork and wheel hub, threading it securely. Tighten using a torque wrench (5-6 Nm).
Step 5: Adjust the Stem and Handlebars
- Align the stem with the front wheel. The top tube should be centered with the tire.
- Tighten the stem bolts using a torque wrench (max 5 Nm).
- Adjust the handlebar angle to your preference (a horizontal position is recommended) and tighten the handlebar clamp bolts (max 4 Nm).
Step 6: Adjust the Saddle
Height:
-
Heel Method: Sit on the saddle, place one heel on the pedal at its lowest point. Adjust the saddle height so your leg is fully extended without locking your knee.
- Mathematical Method: Multiply your inseam length by 0.885. Measure this distance from the center of the bottom bracket to the top of the saddle. Tighten the seat post bolt to 5 Nm.
Angle:
Set the saddle angle horizontally and tighten the bolts under the saddle securely.
Offset:
Ensure the saddle position allows the ball of your foot to align with the pedal axle when the crank is at 3 o’clock. Adjust the saddle forward or backward as needed.
Final Checks and Test Ride
- Perform a shakeout ride with a multitool handy for minor adjustments.
- Confirm all bolts are properly tightened and the bike feels comfortable.
- Verify that brakes and gears function smoothly.
Happy Riding!
